2024 New LTA Rules On Personal Mobility Aids (PMA) in Singapore
The Ministry of Transport announced on 5 March 2024 that the recommendations by the Active Mobility Advisory Panel (AMAP) on regulations for personal mobility aids (PMAs) have been accepted. Here's a summary of the new rules for PMAs in Singapore:
Certification for the Use of Mobility Scooters
Only users certified with relevant medical needs or walking difficulties will be allowed to use mobility scooters. This requirement will not apply to users of manual and motorised wheelchairs.
Reduced Speed Limit for Motorised PMAs
The allowable speed limit of motorised PMAs (i.e., mobility scooters and motorised wheelchairs) will be reduced from 10km/h to 6km/h.
Dimension Restrictions for PMAs on Public Paths
PMAs used on public paths should not exceed a width of 70cm, a length of 120cm, a height of 150cm, and a laden weight of 300kg.
These regulations are expected to come into effect around 2025 after amendments are made to the Active Mobility Act, according to the latest speech given by Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng in the parliament on 5 March 2024 .
